The University of Texas commit stands six-foot-three and throws easy heat. Kelley sits in the mid-90’s and has topped out at 98 and backs that up with a filthy change up. In an abbreviated 2020 Senior season, the Refugio native had a 34/3 K/BB ratio.

In last summer’s 2019 Area Code Game, Kelley drew rave reviews while hurling three scoreless innings for the “Texas Rangers” team. (ironically against the “White Sox” team). He struck out six and walked one.

While the small Texas town of Refugio isn’t well known, it is it is the birthplace of a fellow flame throwing Hall of Famer by the name of Nolan Ryan. Let’s hope there is something in the water.

The Sox can afford to take their time with Kelley with their rotation looking pretty solid the next few seasons with Lucas Giolito, Michael Kopech, Dylan Cease et al with fellow prep arms from last year’s draft Matthew Thompson and Andrew Dalquist from the 2019 Draft backing them up.
